Child custody lawyer in Gothenburg
Advokat Kurage assists parents in Gothenburg and Västra Götaland with questions about custody, residence and contact – from our office at Kungsgatan 38 in central Gothenburg.
Custody disputes at Gothenburg District Court
When parents cannot agree on custody, residence or contact, the matter can be decided by a court. If the child lives in Gothenburg, the case is normally heard by Gothenburg District Court (Göteborgs tingsrätt), and the City of Gothenburg's family law unit may be asked to carry out a custody investigation.
We help you understand the process, prepare for cooperation talks and the preliminary hearing, and represent you in court if needed. The child's best interests are always the starting point of the court's assessment.
How we can help
We advise on joint and sole custody, the child's residence, alternating residence, contact and interim decisions. We also check whether your home insurance legal protection or legal aid may cover part of the costs.
Every case is unique and we cannot promise a particular outcome, but we can give you a clear picture of your options and next steps.
Legal aid and legal protection insurance
A custody dispute can be costly, but financial support is available. Legal protection (rättsskydd) is often included in home insurance and can cover a large part of the lawyer's fees – normally up to a cost ceiling and subject to an excess, often around 20 per cent.
Legal aid (rättshjälp) is state support for people with limited income who do not have legal protection through their insurance. You then pay a legal aid fee based on your finances, and the state pays the rest. We help you find out which support may apply and help you apply.
